Postmodern Moo animated gif The Ambassadors animated gif
Animation can be used to frame a creative response to contextual studies. Brit Pack Divided 2002 features Damien Hirst as the subject of  artwork by newcomer to the London art scene, Dayzee Vache. The animation uses only 4 source images. Transform iconic paintings through animation - here the distorted skull in Holbein's painting The Ambassadors is revealed undistorted before reapplying the anamorphic deformation and replacing it in its original position.

An animation from a single image of a Picasso self-portrait using layers with filters applied. La Gioconda, Leonardo Da Vinci: the right arm is cut and pasted and repositioned on different layers, while the section of Mona Lisa's torso that was hidden behind the original arm is created by cloning visible areas of her gown.
Animation from A Bigger Splash by David Hockney

 

David Hockney's A Bigger Splash was drawn in Microsoft Paint without the splash, which was cloned from a scan of the painting and added gradually on different layers. This Dingo Pot animated GIF has 4 source images - the background, the pot, a close up of the model dingo and a photo of a dingo pack.
