Making Help Sheets with Screenshots
2 [Mac version]

Making
screen snapshots
The iMac has
several different ways of allowing you to grab bits of the screen so that
you can paste them into documents. This can be very useful when preparing
‘how to’ sheets for students or colleagues. My thanks to Marilyn
Jeffries for this. |

Making
the help sheet
1.
Open your target program e.g. Photoshop
2.
Work through the procedure you want to explain to your students once or
twice to clarify the steps involved.
3.
Go through the procedure again using one of the above methods to make
screen shots of the main stages [I prefer method 3 because the picture files
are stored on the desktop for easy access and I can crop the shot to size
immediately without having to use photo-editing software].
4.
Open your word processing program e.g. AppleWorks and type
in the instructions step by step
5.
When the written instructions are complete, drag the screenshots onto the
page and resize or reposition
Incorporating
Graphics into AppleWorks
There
are 2 kinds of objects that can be incorporated into text in AppleWorks: Inline
and Floating.
- Floating
objects are more flexible and text can be wrapped around them.
- To
specify how text wraps around an object, select it and choose Text Wrap
from the Options Menu and specify how you want it to wrap.
- If
the Options menu is not available, it is an Inline Object.
- To
change an Inline Object to a Floating Object, select it, and
then choose Cut from the Edit menu. Click on the Arrow
in the Tools Window and finally go to Edit > Paste. The Options
Menu should now be available.
- If
the Tools Menu is not visible, go to Window > Show Tools.
