This project
came about because, during a photo-shoot at Trafalgar Square with a
group of GCSE pupils, I was shocked to discover that this was the first time
the majority of them had
visited the centre of London, apart from shopping in Oxford Street,
although they lived within
walking distance of so many famous landmarks. So I resolved to bring the capital
into the art department. Year 9 pupils helped paint the backdrop and
made the three rough sleeper figures with fabric faces and hands. All KS3 pupils made a pigeon for the
installation, while GCSE pupils produced coursework on the theme of Cityscapes
(not shown). KS3 outcomes included
a live performance, designs for a London Landmark Board Game, proposals
for site specific sculptures at selected local venues with digital
illustrations of maquettes in situ, observational drawings,
photography and the pigeons.
