Adobe
Photoshop 6: Compositing
1 |
|
This technique works well when
combining images for CD cover designs - just add text. |
- Open 2 files (see below)
e.g. angelika.jpg; clouds.jpg
- Click on your first
image (e.g. angelika) to activate it
- Go to Select
> All
- Now
go to Edit > Copy
- Activate background photo [clouds]
by
clicking on it.
NB Or you could use the Move
tool [V] to simply drag a copy of one picture onto the other.
|
 |
- Go to Edit > Paste: clouds
will be obscured completely by angelika. Note that there are now two layers.
|
|

|
-
Use one of the selection tools to select
the part of the image that you want to show through. I used the Elliptical
Marquee Tool.
-
Soften the edge of the selection by
feathering it: on the Tool Options bar type in a radius of
about 20 pixels: the radius will depend on image size.
|
|
|
-
Click
on the angelika layer on the Layers Palette to select it.
-
Finally, click on the Layer Mask Tool
at the bottom of the layer palette to add a mask that will allow the
background image to show through.
