Paint Shop Pro 7: Compositing Using Masks

Angelika with her head in the clouds

This technique can be used for CD cover designs - just add text.

1. Copy and save the following images by right-clicking (PC) on each in turn, selecting Save Picture As from the pop up menu and saving it to your picture folder:

angelika.jpg mask2.jpg clouds.jpg

2.   Click on angelika to activate the image.

3.   Go to Masks > New> From Image

4.    Select mask2.jpg from the drop down menu and make sure that the Source Luminance radio button is checked, but that the Invert mask data box is not.

5.   On the Layer palette you will see a new sign next to the layer name indicating that a mask is enabled. You can view the mask by going to Masks > View mask. The red areas indicate the mask. Turn off mask view: Masks > View mask

6.  With angelika still active, go to Selections > Select All

7.  Now go to Edit > Copy

8.  Finally, activate clouds by clicking on it and go to Edit > Paste as New Layer and the 3 images will be combined. Save it with a new name.
