Paint Shop Pro 7: Fill Type with Imagery

1. Open two images - one that you want to add text to, the other that you want to use to fill the text e.g. add text to zebra.jpg and fill that text with an old map of Africa old_africa.jpg

2. Activate the image that you want to add text to by clicking on it.

3. Add a new layer to the image
for your text: Layer > New Vector Layer. Call the layer
Text

4. Select the Text Tool and then click on your picture: you will see this window.

5. Now you can choose a font (a thick one is better e.g. Elephant), an outline colour (by double-clicking on the Styles > Stroke icon) and size although you can change this later. Type your text.

6. Select the Create As > Vector radio button

7. To fill the text that you have made with a picture you have opened, click and hold the little black arrow by
Styles > Fill
and choose the Pattern option. Then click exactly on the black arrow to bring up the pattern window below.

8. Clicking on the small black arrow again will give you not only the preset pattern options, but you will also find  that any photos you have open are available as patterns at the top of the menu. Select the one you want to use as a fill pattern > OK.

9. You can resize and move the text while it is still selected. When you are satisfied, go to Selections > Select None to apply the changes.

10. Now flatten the layers Layers > Merge > Merge All (Flatten) and save your work as a jpeg.
