1. Either open a new image as before, but make it 500
x 200 pixels, or open an existing image to which you want to add text
2. Set a foreground colour that approximates to the
material you want to imitate e.g. medium brown for wood.

3. Select the
Text Tool, click on the image
window and choose a font and size.

Stroke |

Check the Create As Selection box to select the outline of the text; in
the Styles box set the stroke to None
and set Fill to Paint (the brush
icon on the pop out menu); in the Textures
box select None and None
> OK.

Add the texture by first selecting the Paint Brushes tool.

Now go to the Colour Palette and
click the Foreground Texture button
and select the Texture icon from the fly-out menu. Double click to bring up the Texture
window where you can click on the black arrow and choose from a range of
options, here it’s Woodgrain > OK.

In the Tool
Options roll up palette select > Shape
Round; Brush Options Normal; Size
200; Opacity 100; Hardness 50;
Density 100; Step
25 (mostly the default settings). If you can't see the palette, go to View
> Tool Options

8.
Paint over the text by dragging while holding the left mouse button.
Cover evenly with paint, but not too thick or the grain will be obscured.
9.
Go to
Selections (on the top toolbar) > Modify
> Feather and enter a value of 5 for the number of pixels affected > OK.

10. Swap the foreground
and background colours by clicking on the double arrow between the swatches on
the Colour Palette.

Finally,
choose Effects > Artistic Effects > Hot Wax Coating to bring out the
grain.
